Since
moving to Philadelphia, I have become increasingly fascinated by the contrast
between the Quaker simplicity of its older house facades and the sumptuous
interiors that they conceal. I became
curious about the lives that are lived there. I have also become more and more interested in capturing the body
language of people interacting with one another. I try to keep my images of people loose, so
as to generalize what I see rather than narrow them down to specific portraits. One of my aims also is to record some of the
older interiors in Philadelphia before they vanish or are broken into
condominiums.
Another
of my interests is flower painting. It
was originally triggered by a large exhibition of flower paintings by most of
the major artists from Cezanne to the present (Louisiana Museum, Denmark,
2004). The exhibit showed the various
ways in which artists have used flower images to help free their visions.
In
addition, I am continuing to experiment with printmaking techniques..
